What is Tenancy Deposit Claim
If you paid a deposit when renting your home, you could be entitled to compensation worth 1 to 3 times your deposit — often between £800 and £3,000+.
By law, your landlord must protect your deposit within 30 days of receiving it, using one of three government-backed schemes. If they fail to do this — or even if they don’t tell you where it’s protected within that timeframe — you could make a Tenancy Deposit Compensation Claim.
This applies even if you’ve moved out or your tenancy has been renewed. And if there’s more than one breach (e.g. over multiple tenancy agreements), the compensation can multiply significantly.
At Cook Legal Solicitors, our expert team can tell you in minutes if you have a claim. We work on a No Win, No Fee basis and can start your case within a few hours.

Why Tenancy Deposit Claims are Important
Educational Content: In 2023, approximately 5.4 million households in the UK were private renters. This made up 19% of householders living in the private rented sector.
By 2024, 32.5% of the population rent with the majority of renters being private. Approximately 77% of private renter households pay a deposit when they move in to their current accommodation, only 18% of those have their deposit protected, this means that between 63%-73% of private householders had their deposit protected and between 27%-37% did not. There are approximately 1.5 million people whose deposit is not protected.
